Why are you talking about "Java 7" in that blog?

There should be no Java 7. There should be an entire new programming-language independently from Java. Let's say something between Java, C# and JS2. Furthermore we should not allow Sun Micro to dictate the future as they did in the past. The new programming-language should have some sort of trademark similar to Linux but not that awful Sun-trademark. Maybe the name of the new program-language could be "Hawaii" which is another beautiful island too. There should be a new open managed runtime too (OMAR) independent from Sun's Java. Harmony could be a good starting-point.

I was fortunate enough to hear Guy Steele give that speech as his keynote at OOPSLA '98 and it was so memorable that I still refer to it today. I remember almost no other keynotes from conferences as well as that one.

It would be very nice to see that caching API in java 7. Also, the void method call sounds very interesting too!
