Defrag your calendar
We were just talking about how it would be nice to have a defragger that could run on your calendar and push all your meetings together so you had more open time to actually get something done. We really need that to run weekly at an enterprise level to optimize the meetings times of all employees across the company.

Hi! My name is Alex Miller and I live in St. Louis. I write code for a living and currently work for
This is one great an idea. Unfortunately, meetings never take as long as planned, so the defragger must be fuzzy and take delays into account. Maybe it could match delays on participating people, as some usually are the cause … ;)
@Stefan: Apparently your meeting experience is the opposite of mine…seems like they usually take longer than planned. (Maybe it’s me!)
Just delete all meetings. But, if that’s too drastic, ensure that no meetings are scheduled in the AM. At least we’d be able to get stuff done during the first half of our day.
@Randall: Oh sure, that’s easy to say from the guy working at home in a company of 3 people… I think I’d rather do the reverse though and have all meetings in the afternoon so I could just sleep through them. :)
@Alex: Ah, I did not mean to exclude them to be longer than planned. Maybe I should have said “as short as planned” instead. But I actually meant both (which might leave you with gaps you don’t know what to do with).
Btw., there is another issue: people always tend to be late for meetings. Not only because of other meetings, but because of any useless reason or excuse (my car broke, the train was bombed). Maybe, adding a connection to traffic and catastrophy reports might be useful, too.
