USB starvation

4

I got a new MacBook Pro for work and generally I’m loving it. It’s a lot nicer than my old old personal MacBook. But I am totally starved for USB ports. The MBP has only 2 USB ports!!!! In today’s peripheral-heavy world that’s just brutal. C’mon Apple gimme some love!

    Alex,

Not sure which one you have, but mine has 3. 2 on the left, and 1 on the right. Not a whole lot more, but I don’t think I personally have ever needed more. And where would you put them? There are 2 firewire ports, power cable, headphone/mic jacks, network, and DVI.

Hey, I’ve had mine for about 7 months, and I love it. Best of luck with yours

I have a brand new MacBook Pro – has one USB on left and one on the right, plus all the stuff you mention. I picked up a USB hub at Target yesterday and I’m ok for now. I’ve currently got a printer, iPod, headset, mouse, and soon a keyboard to plug in, so 2 was just not cutting it. Actually, I just realized the keyboard has a couple ports on back which will be nice. The Dell I was working on before this had 4 ports I think, which seems more reasonable.

    Brian,

Do you have a 17″ MacBook Pro? I do, and like yours mine has 2 on the left and 1 on the right. Alex must have a 15″, per the specs. Either way, I agree with you, Alex, that 2 USBs is too few.

For me, a USB hub offers a key advantage: far fewer things to unplug when I want to go mobile. My old Dell laptop had a docking station, which was very nice. The closest and cheapest thing to that is the USB hub.

Ah, that’s the difference. I’ve got a 15″. I can’t believe 17″ has only one more port. The double ports on the Dell are really nice but I guess they’re just a shade too tall to fit on the super thin MBPs.
