Credit card scam: WLI*RESERVATIONREWARDS

15

I just happened to be watching my credit card statement a little closer than normal this month and saw a $10 charge from WLI*RESERVATIONREWARDS from a company in Connecticut. I was fairly certain that I had not made any such charge, so I did some quick googling to find sites like this and this with 1000s of comments from people similarly scammed.

This company (WebLoyalty.com) appears to automatically sign people up through various Internet travel sites. They sign you up for a subscription that shows up as a $9 to $11 charge every month. It’s low enough and innocuous looking enough that you can shrug it off as some miscellaneous Internet charge you forgot. Many fairly popular sites like expedia.com, movietickets.com, etc can lead to these charges.

I looked back through old statements and found that they’ve been charging me for 10 months, so I’m $100 down so far. Their office is closed now but I will be raising some hell tomorrow.

Check your statements!

WHAT TO DO IF THIS HAPPENED TO YOU:

Call the company and ask:

  1. To cancel your enrollment
  2. To get all your money back
  3. How you got signed up

They are typically happy to comply with all of those. If they comply with stuff like this, people complain less and have less grounds to sue them. :)

If you want, you can file a Better Business Bureau complaint against WebLoyalty, Inc. Or file a complaint with the web site you were using when you were registered. The web site gets a cut, which is why they do it. But if they lose customers because of it, they might change their minds.

I called the company and canceled my subscription and got a full refund. As described online reports, they were quite happy to do so. I also discovered that the initial infection came from my wife buying something at Lillian Vernon. I filed a complaint with them asking them to stop using the service.

I also checked out the BBB report for the company and they have almost 1000 complaints in the last 18 months. I added one more. :) I also filed a complaint against Lillian Vernon for using this crappy fraudulent service as well.

Same thing happened to me – WLI*RESERVATIONREWARDS $10.00 charge on my bank statement.

A class action suite in in order.

I just found the same thing on TWO of my bank accounts, how do I get in on the suite?

I also got this. Looking back through my archived email (I keep everything), I found this email that starts:

You’ve made a great decision to sign up for Reservation Rewards discount benefits, the first of which is your $15.00 Cash Back Award on your next AllPosters.com purchase.

I initially ignored the email because I thought it was one of those standard “Congratulations, sign up now” things. Evidently, I was already signed up.

The same happened to me today with this company. Ten $10 bucks deducted from my credit card. I have a system that works whenever my credit card is used a text message is sent to my phone and it gives the info of who how much and a balance so I was on it. This has happened not only with this company with others as well .I use other sites such Tiger direct and some others to order gadgets. I wonder if they are providing my personal info to other companies like these.

I to just noticed a 12.00 charge on my visa bill from reservationsrewards. I phoned the toll free number and then phoneed to cancel my credit card. The faster you notice the discrepancy the better. I got scammed through classmates. BEWARE!

I found that this service was started when I purchased tickets from fandago.com.

This bogus service has been charged to my credit card ($10/month) since 03/07. I finally noticed this charge on 10/07 and called the 8007-732-7031 number and was told I signed up for this service when I ordered items through Petco.com.

I was scammed as well. It’s a sham that you work hard for your money and want to treat yourself by purchasing something on line. Pop-up ads appear wanting you to submit , you don’t and somehow it goes through as if you agreed to it. I purchased from fragrance.net site and reservationrewards deducted $10 from my credit card. I called the number to cancel this crap but it doesn’t replace the money. I do believe that if you catch it in time and call the 1-800 number to cancel it’s better than waiting and letting them take your hard earned dollars each month. All shoppers BEWARE and check your bank or credit cards statements frequently to be on the safe side.

  13. Glenroy says:

Correction is through Spirit Air .com
