ORCL bids $6.66B for BEAS

Wow! Lots of talk about this for years and it’s finally happening. Apparently they offered $17/share (BEAS closed at $13.62 yesterday). BEAS is up around $18 on the news. Obviously, the $6.66B number indicates that Larry Ellison is the devil?

Carl Icahn has been buying up a healthy stake in BEAS (11% at last report) and very publicly advocating a sale to someone like Oracle or HP (another long-time rumored suitor). Alfred Chuang, CEO at BEA, has also very publicly said they’re not interested in being sold. Should be fun to see if that story changes.

Next: GOOG buys JAVA?
