Favorite Mac apps
Michael is finally joining the modern world and switching to Mac and invited people to submit their favorite / essential Mac apps.
Here’s my list:
- Firefox - duh
- Adium - chat
- iTerm - terminal (Leopard’s version is usable but I like iTerm shortcuts and other features better
- Mail - sufficient but wish it had a calendar other than iCal
- TextMate $$ - text editor (not free, but worth it) - try TextWrangler for an ok free editor
- Quicksilver - app launching and more
- NeoOffice - very decent for word processing and office stuff
- KeyNote $$ - must have for presentations
- iStat - menu bar stats
- Growl - system notification, integrates with many above
- Colloquy - irc
- NetNewsWire - rss
- Audacity - audio editing
- Audio Hijack $$ - swiping audio from any app
- Senuti - move songs off your iPod onto a different computer (senuti == reverse(itunes))
- ByteController - iTunes control from the menu bar, probably something better out there
- coconutBattery - for those obsessed with battery performance
- CoRD - a better Remote Desktop for Windows access
- OmniGraffle $$ - drawing program, totally worth the cash, check out all the Omni apps
- TinyAlarm - a wonderful tiny menu bar alarm clock
- Zoom - a player for interactive fiction files like Zork :)
